Those two tell commands are the correct way. The nsf is a reflection of the Traveler database (derby, DB2, SQL). The commands operation on that database, and the nsf should be updated based on those changes. If the database is wrong, the tell commands have some issue. If the database does not have those records but the nsf does, that is only an issue with the nsf. Restarting Traveler should attempt to clean up the nsf, so that would be the first thing to try. Other than that, you might have orphaned records in the nsf which don't cause any problem (just noise). This has been an issue over time, so the latest release (8.5.3 UP2 now) is always recommended to make sure you have all the fixes.
